HOMEFRONT BRANDS

FRANCHISE
INSURANCE

HomeFront Brands is a growing franchise family. AdvantaClean, Top Rail Fence, Window Hero, Roof Scientist, and The Designery represent trades that span mold and moisture remediation, fencing, window care, roofing, and kitchen and bath design. The brands are growing. The FDDs are thinner than the older families. The franchise agreements defer more to the operations manual on specifics. That gap between what the FDD says and what the operations manual specifies is exactly where franchisee insurance confusion starts.

When an FDD defers insurance specifics to the operations manual, the franchisee gets less guidance from the agreement they signed and reviewed. The agent who quoted the policy may never have seen the operations manual. The coverage that results is often built on general home services assumptions — not on the specific trade exposures HomeFront's brands actually carry.

Roof Scientist franchisees do roofing work. The insurance conversation for a roofing operation is not the same as the conversation for a window cleaning business. Window Hero's glass-cleaning and window-replacement operations carry a different liability profile than a kitchen design franchise. The trades in this family are distinct. The insurance programs for each need to be distinct too.

Here is what HomeFront Brands' franchise agreements require. And here is where that requirement ends before your real exposure begins.

What HomeFront Brands requires of its franchisees

General liability at $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate is the consistent floor across HomeFront Brands' active portfolio. Four confirmed entity names from current FDD extractions: Roof Scientist franchisees name HFB RoofCo Franchising, LLC — a North Carolina LLC — as the additional insured. Window Hero franchisees name LP Franchising, LLC — also a North Carolina LLC. The Designery franchisees name A1 Kitchen & Bath Franchising, LLC — a North Carolina LLC.

AdvantaClean — acquired by HomeFront Brands — operates under AdvantaClean Systems, LLC, a North Carolina LLC.

FDD extraction is pending for Top Rail Fence. Entity name and specific requirements for that brand reflect Rikor's benchmark for fencing installation — GL at $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate, commercial auto at $1 million, WC at statutory limits, and employers' liability at $1 million across all three sub-limits — until the confirmed extraction is available.

Workers' compensation is required across all HomeFront brands at statutory limits. Employers' liability is $1 million per accident, $1 million per employee, $1 million policy limit. Commercial auto at $1 million combined single limit applies to any brand operating service vehicles.

The FDD deferral to the operations manual — present in several HomeFront brand agreements — means the certificate compliance requirement may be more specific than the FDD alone suggests. Franchisees should confirm insurance specifics with their designated area representative before program inception, not after the first COI request arrives.

Requirements diverge most significantly between HomeFront's roofing brand (Roof Scientist) and its service and design brands. Each brand's full requirements are covered in its individual article below.

How HomeFront Brands insurance requirements vary by brand

Roof Scientist occupies a different risk tier than the other four HomeFront brands. Residential roofing involves height work, structural property exposure, the highest WC classification rates in the contractor space, and a completed operations tail that follows every job for years. A roofing franchise cannot be adequately insured on a standard home services contractor program. The WC rate for roofing labor runs $15 to $25 per $100 of payroll in most states — among the highest rates in the residential trades. The GL exposure for a roofing operation includes not only the active job but completed operations claims from prior seasons.

Window Hero's operations blend exterior cleaning and window replacement. The cleaning side carries low per-event property damage exposure. The replacement side — installing new window units into residential and commercial structures — carries completed operations exposure that extends past the installation date. A window improperly sealed against the frame is a water intrusion claim waiting to arrive at month 14. The distinction between Window Hero's service operations and its installation operations should be reflected in the policy's completed operations structure.

What HomeFront Brands franchisees get wrong about insurance

The operations manual deferral gap is the most common source of non-compliance for HomeFront franchisees. When the FDD says "per the operations manual," the franchisee has a compliance standard they may never have reviewed in detail. The insurance agent who built the program almost certainly has not seen the operations manual. The result is a policy built on general assumptions that may miss specific endorsement requirements, limit floors, or entity name specifics that the operations manual clarifies. HomeFront franchisees should request the insurance section of their operations manual and verify it against their policy before their first COI request.

The mold exclusion gap is the most consequential error for AdvantaClean franchisees specifically. Standard commercial GL policies routinely include mold or fungi exclusions. For most home service businesses, that exclusion is irrelevant. For a mold remediation franchise, it removes coverage for the brand's core work. An explicit mold and fungi extension endorsement — or a carrier that does not apply the exclusion to contractor operations — is essential for every AdvantaClean program.

The WC classification error is particularly acute for Roof Scientist franchisees. Roofing classifies under some of the highest-rate WC codes available. A roofing franchisee whose WC policy is coded under a general contractor or handyman classification is paying a lower premium — and accumulating audit exposure. The year-end audit will find the gap. The adjustment bill will not be negotiable.

The entity name error applies across the HomeFront portfolio. LP Franchising, LLC — the Window Hero entity — is not an obvious or memorable legal name. HFB RoofCo Franchising, LLC for Roof Scientist, A1 Kitchen & Bath Franchising, LLC for The Designery, and AdvantaClean Systems, LLC for AdvantaClean are all specific legal names that must appear exactly on certificates. A franchisee who lists "HomeFront Brands" or the wrong brand entity on a certificate creates a compliance failure on the date the certificate is issued.

What does HomeFront Brands franchise insurance cost?

Roof Scientist insurance cost reflects the roofing trade's risk profile — the highest in the HomeFront family. Single-territory startup: $8,000 to $16,000 annually. This range assumes correct WC classification, a GL policy built for roofing operations, and subcontractor monitoring to protect against audit exposure from lapsed sub certificates.

Window Hero and The Designery operate in the $3,500 to $7,500 startup range. Window cleaning and replacement sit below roofing in severity, but completed operations endorsements add to the base premium — especially for replacement work.

AdvantaClean operates in the mold and moisture remediation space. Remediation work requires the mold extension endorsement on the GL policy, raising the cost above a standard service brand. Single-territory startup: $5,500 to $10,000 annually.

Top Rail Fence (pending FDD extraction) is a fencing installation operation. Structural installation work carries completed operations exposure at every project. Startup benchmark: $3,800 to $7,200 annually.

FDD Item 7 estimates, where available, reflect first-year minimum operations. Real costs grow with revenue on audited lines. Plan for a 20 to 35 percent gap between FDD figures and actual program cost.

Claim Scenario: Roofing subcontractor — Roof Scientist

A Roof Scientist franchisee contracted two sub crews during a busy storm-response season. Certificates were collected at hire. One sub crew's workers' compensation policy had lapsed six weeks into the engagement — a mid-season non-renewal that the franchisee was not notified of.

At year-end audit, the carrier identified $95,000 in sub payroll that could not be documented with current WC certificates. Roofing WC classification rate: $18.50 per $100 of payroll. Audit adjustment: $17,575. Delivered with the renewal bill, due within 30 days. The franchisee had no recourse — the certificate collected at hire was not valid on the date of the sub's last job. Subcontractor certificate monitoring, included in the Rikor client program, surfaces lapsed policies before the audit, not after. For roofing operations using sub crews, this is not optional protection. It is operational necessity.

The Designery and Top Rail Fence represent the installation end of the family. Kitchen and bath design and remodeling create completed operations exposure at every project — a countertop installation, a cabinet replacement, tile work. Fencing installation creates structural completed operations exposure at every residential property where a fence goes in. Both trades require explicit completed operations coverage, and both benefit from a separate sub-limit rather than relying on the general aggregate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS ABOUT

HOMEFRONT BRANDS

DOES HOMEFRONT BRANDS HAVE A STANDARD INSURANCE REQUIREMENT ACROSS ALL ITS BRANDS?

+

General liability at $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate is confirmed across brands with completed FDD extractions. Beyond that floor, trade-specific requirements, entity names, and completed operations structure vary significantly — particularly between Roof Scientist (roofing) and the service and design brands.

WHO IS THE ADDITIONAL INSURED ON A HOMEFRONT BRANDS FRANCHISE AGREEMENT?

+

Each brand names a different legal entity. Roof Scientist requires HFB RoofCo Franchising, LLC. Window Hero requires LP Franchising, LLC. The Designery requires A1 Kitchen & Bath Franchising, LLC. AdvantaClean requires AdvantaClean Systems, LLC. The Top Rail Fence entity is pending confirmation — verify from your signed franchise agreement before issuing any certificate.

DOES HOMEFRONT BRANDS' FDD SPECIFY ALL INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS?

+

Some HomeFront FDDs defer specific insurance requirements to the operations manual. This means the franchisee has a compliance standard beyond what the FDD alone states. Always request and review the insurance section of the operations manual before building your coverage program.

DOES ROOF SCIENTIST REQUIRE DIFFERENT COVERAGE THAN OTHER HOMEFRONT BRANDS?

+

Yes — substantially. Roofing is the highest-risk trade in the HomeFront portfolio. Roofing-specific WC classification, higher GL limits, subcontractor certificate management, and a robust completed operations structure are all required. A standard home services contractor program is not adequate for a roofing franchise.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT HOMEFRONT REQUIRES AND WHAT I ACTUALLY NEED?

+

The FDD and operations manual set the compliance standard. What protects your investment is the layer above that — correct WC classification, a completed operations sub-limit sized to the work you're doing, and subcontractor monitoring for brands (like Roof Scientist) that use sub crews. Compliance is one question. Protection is another.

WHAT COMPLETED OPERATIONS COVERAGE DO HOMEFRONT INSTALLATION BRANDS NEED?

+

For Roof Scientist, Top Rail Fence, The Designery, and the installation side of Window Hero, completed operations coverage should either carry a separate sub-limit or be reviewed annually to ensure the general aggregate is not being depleted by prior-work claims. The work installed today is a liability tail that runs for years.

WHAT TO VERIFY BEFORE YOUR HOMEFRONT BRANDS COVERAGE IS FINAL

Before any HomeFront Brands certificate is issued or operations begin, verify six things in sequence. First, confirm the legal entity for your specific brand — HFB RoofCo Franchising LLC, LP Franchising LLC, A1 Kitchen & Bath Franchising LLC, or AdvantaClean Systems LLC for confirmed brands; verify from your signed agreement for Top Rail Fence. Second, review the insurance section of your operations manual and confirm your policy reflects any requirements that go beyond the FDD. Third, verify your WC class code against your actual trade — roofing classification is not the same as lawn care or general handyman, and the difference creates audit exposure. Fourth, confirm your completed operations structure — whether it sits in the general aggregate or carries a separate sub-limit — and match that to the installation or restoration work you'll be completing. Fifth, for Roof Scientist franchisees who use sub crews, confirm your subcontractor certificate monitoring process covers current certificates on the date of each job. Sixth, set your Item 7 estimate beside your actual quote and plan for the gap in your operating budget.

If any of those items surface a question, the answer is in the brand article for your specific HomeFront brand, linked above.
